Poems for the End of the World: How to Reconcile

How to Reconcile

when my sister and I fought
our lower backs ached

we didn’t know this happened
to the other sister as well

until we made up
our roots, aching from the brief separation.

these roots tangle and sprout and dive
even breathe as one body
even different our prayers and how we
picture God’s face the shape of
our heaven and bliss on different
flavors my perfect love a whole
octave outside most ears and still:

love
the tangled inhale
beauty love roots
exhale together
woven forgiveness
love and knots.
